Free Pattern Spotlight – Blue Himalayan Poppy

This is a must get flower pattern because it’s free. All you need to do is join the Facebook group “Flawless Crochet Flowers”. The pattern is available in the files. Leticia, the creator, is very generous with her time if you need any help.

I used Aunt Lydia’s classic crochet 10 in royal blue. I probably should have used a lighter blue and painted it. I do have to share that the pattern calls for using chalk to color the thread. I stupidly thought she meant for me to use my children’s chalk. Now I know there is such a thing as chalk colors.

I do have to share that I joined Leticia’s summer CAL which had some amazing patterns. She is currently selling them at a discount and I think it is a must buy.

Pattern Spotlight – Royal Poinciana Flamboyant

Beautiful pattern by Leticia Lebron of Flawless Crochet Flowers. This arrangement was part of a summer CAL for 2017.

What is a CAL? Crochet-Along. Once upon a time that brought up images of women sitting around in circles talking about their lives while creating something together. Now we have social media and the current CALs bring together people from all over the world to create a pattern in their image.  As a beginner, I would highly recommend joining one. It gives you the opportunity to try something with a group of people that you can turn to with anything from a question about hooks to gripes about how difficult it is. I learned a lot, but that is a topic for another today.

Today it is the Royal Poinciana Flamboyant. Delonix regia, is a flowering plant in the bean family. It is aptly grouped with other trees known as the “flame trees”. Leticia has done a wonderful job of capturing the likeness of the flower, pod, and leaf.

I used Aunt Lydia’s Classic Crochet 10 Thread in red and white with a 1.9 crochet hook.

You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry or through Etsy. I highly recommend joining her Facebook group for information on her next patterns, contests and CALs. Joining the CAL was well worth it.

Free crochet pattern spotlight – Sand Dollar

Quick little sand dollar for a much larger project. While it serves it’s purpose, it doesn’t look like one.

I spent most of my free time today looking for a good free pattern and it just isn’t out there. That means I have to come up with one! Add it to the growing task list.

That brings me to pattern searching. I love Ravelry, but sometimes I like to try it out on my own. All I get are Pinterest and all these blogs/pages of the “18 best ….” or the “25 free crochet patterns of ….”. It ends up being just a constant page scroller where I have to hunt for the link amid random comments, pictures, and ADS. I am always on my phone, so I chalk it up to being on mobile sites. I am really a novice at what makes sites profitable, but I can’t imagine that mess helps. Is that what it comes to to turn a profit?

Man vs Women: Shower Wars

You cannot tell me that men and women are the same. They are, but they are not. Aside from the birth thing, women can do everything men can do, and vice versa.

Except in the shower. We have tons of those little travel shampoo and conditioners. My husband always uses them. I have tried to use them and I end up with scarecrow straw hair. Instead my side of the shower looks like we have a hair salon. 😳
